Why Fitness Is the Foundation of My Life
I was raised on a ranch in the redwood forest, got into weightlifting at 16, and went on to study how exercise affects the brain. Ask me about it and I'll talk for hours.
Fitness has been a cornerstone of my life for as long as I can remember.
My childhood was spent on a ranch in the redwood forest, where I looked after four horses, three dogs, an aviary full of birds, a pond of koi fish, and a garden. Growing up that way gave me a kind of mental and physical discipline. I didn't realize how unusual it was until much later.
At 16, I fell in love with fitness, weightlifting above all. Before long it meant far more to me than how I looked. What it does for my mind matters just as much as what it does for my body.
That's partly why I studied neuroscience. I was fascinated by the way exercise changes the brain at a physiological level. I could go on about it for hours. It has genuinely changed my life.
