Physical Activity - earlier in the day

Why I Train Earlier in the Day

I work out 4-6 times a week, about an hour after breakfast. Here's why I train in the morning and how I read the science on it.

Once I've had breakfast, I go to the gym. I train 4-6 times a week, usually around 10am or 11am.

Part of why I lift earlier in the day is metabolic, and part of it is plain preference. Human chronobiology research hasn't yet produced much on how workout timing affects metabolism. Still, after years of lifting, I've found that roughly an hour after breakfast works really well for me.

Skeletal muscle has its own molecular clock. Because of that, I believe it helps to lift at a consistent time.

Cortisol is also at its highest after waking, and I like to put that to work for me in the gym.
